Summer Hygge Check-In

Last night, as my husband and I were watching TV, he commented “it is already dark and it is so early.” Yes, it is true we live in the Eastern part of the Central Time Zone but there is still 1 official month of summer left…plenty of time to enjoy those summer nights! If you are wondering how to spend the next month utilizing the beautiful days for summertime Hygge events, below are a few tips to embrace before preparing for the official shorter days of fall and winter

Neighborhood get together. In May, I mentioned how the campfire was a great way to bring the neighbors together while being outdoors. So this upcoming weekend we are doing a bit of a twist on this concept. We are hosting a Bloody Mary Bar on our front porch. It brings neighbors together (the social aspect of Hygge) while not getting eaten alive by bugs or smelling like campfire. We will be making it a healthier option, relatively speaking, rather then roasting marshmallows we will be providing a variety of locally grown vegetables from the farmers market to add as edible garnishes!

Kayaking. Who said that kayaking and being out on the water had to happen during the daylight hours? Next weekend one of the local boat rentals is having a Full Moon Paddle My most exciting time on the water this summer was to paddle to the Fit Barge, in Lake Monona, during the Cross Fit games for a class…yes there was threat of thunder so I did not get to do the actual class on the barge ☹.

Biking. So my husband does not enjoying bike riding because it is “too much work”. I, on the other hand, love it! Biking is my main mode of transportation to meetings around town because it’s a great way to get in my exercise with limited time. However, I have discovered a happy medium for us, the electric bike. Yes, I know they have been out for awhile but there is a newer brand on the market called Genze Bicycles they use the “latest EV technology to give you three throttle options; pedal, pedal assist, or all-electric.” How amazing is this? I am hoping this option on activity levels will help to increase the amount of time my husband spends outdoors.

Cheers to the weekend! Hopefully you get out there to enjoy these final days of fun in the sun!
