Baked Peach Treat—This is like a fresh baked peach pie!

Posted by Healthy and Hygge on Wednesday, July 4, 2018

Ingredients Needed

  1. 4-6 peaches cut into bite sized pieces
  2. 1/2-1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  3. 1/2-1/3 Cup White Sugar
  4. 1/4-1/3 Cup Melted butter
  5. 2 tsp. Vanilla
  6. 1 tsp. Molasses
  7. 1- 1.5oz shot Spiced Rum
  8. 4-6 graham cracker squares
  9. 1/4 cup grape-nuts cereal
  10. An 8-inch pie pan or a cookie sheet (your choice)

To create this delicious treat, begin by de-pitting and then slicing 4-6 peaches, depending on the number of people you plan to share with! Crush the graham crackers into bite sized pieces. Place the cut peaches in the pie pan or on a cookie sheet, I chose a glass pie pan when I made the recipe so I could easily see how the peaches baked. Then melt the butter. Add the vanilla, spiced rum, and molasses to the butter and stir. Take a taste to make sure this mixture is to your taste buds liking, because I often add a little something more to give it the flavor I like! Once you have found the combination you like, drizzle this mixture over the peaches and stir to ensure every piece is covered. Then mix together the crumbled graham crackers (or Grape-Nuts) brown sugar, and white sugar, sprinkle all over the top of the peaches. Maybe add a splash of water—so things don’t dry out. It’s ready to be baked! Throw this into the oven at 325 degrees for about 25 minutes, could be a few minutes longer or shorter, but at least until the peaches are just soft enough to melt in your mouth. So grab your fork and enjoy at your 4th of July festivities!

Red, White, and Blue Angel Food Cake

Ingredients Needed

  1. Angel Food Cake
  2. Whipped Cream (homemade or store bought—homemade is more Hygge but store bought is much easier!)
  3. Fresh Fruit—preferably, Raspberries, Strawberries, and Blueberries to give it that Red, White, and Blue flair!

Cut or slice the angel food cake into individual serving sizes. Put a dollop of Whipped Cream on top of each piece then slice the fruits to sprinkle on top to create a red, white and blue healthy treat. Or leave the Angel Food Cake whole, put the whipped cream on the entire cake, like frosting a birthday cake, and decorate with the sliced fruit. The combination is lower carbohydrate, lower calories, and super tasty! Also super light for this warm 4th of July day!

So sit back, relax and enjoy time with friends and family—because that is the Healthy and Hygge way to celebrate the 4th of July!
